One of my deepest hopes is that choosing to speak up or help others, love others, understand others...is never solely political for you. That it’s never just about what is personally gained, or who is “right”, or what public figure it aligns with...unless what you’re gaining is a greater compassion for people with different life experiences than yourself.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
It truly, truly doesn’t.
Loving others and wanting everyone to be given the same space, the same voice, the same chances and opportunity...whether race or different abilities, or religion etc. ... should just be a way you hope to live... not a party or person you feel you need to be tied to.
It’s a choice you need to make for yourself, and I hope one that you want to. I challenge you to always be ready to really dig down deep and get uncomfortable....you will be better for it.
I am still figuring it out...and I want to continue to do so. We all have so much to learn...and that is okay...as long as we are willing to be able to listen and do so...be reachable...and teachable...
There is more than enough room for all of us to live on this earth without having to stand on top of others. Who really wants to live...or die...with all that hate?
***What started out a letter to my children became a letter to myself...and then a letter I thought maybe a few of us could read.
